Transferring Counselog to a new computer

If you want to start using Counselog on a new computer using the same records, carefully follow the procedure below in sequence.

(For release 4.2, replace "4.3" below with "4.2".)

  1. First, open the Counselog installation folder on your old computer.

    On Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8, and Windows 10 this is:

    C:\Users\<Windows user name>\AppData\Local\Counselog 4.3\

    and on Windows XP this is:

    C:\Documents and Settings\<Windows user name>\Local Settings\Application Data\Counselog 4.3\

    (where <Windows user name> is the user name you use to log into Windows)

  2. Copy the following files/folders to a safe location:

    a)    Your counselling records:  i.e. any files that begin with the name "Cg4 US <Counselog user name>" where <Counselog user name> is the user name you use to log into Counselog.

    b)    The backups folder called "Cg4 backups".

    c)    The docs folder called "Cg4 docs".

  3. Download the Counselog installer from . After downloading it, double-click the installer file and following the on screen instructions.
  4. After Counselog is installed, start Counselog by double-clicking the Counselog shortcut on your desktop. Let Counselog complete the setup process. Send the start up email if you like, or otherwise close the email message window to continue.
  5. Log into Counselog using the Example account - the password for this account is in the "Start-up Guide" screen that displays when Counselog first runs (please be sure to read this).
  6. Exit Counselog by double-clicking the exit button on the main page.
  7. After Counselog has fully closed, copy the files and folders you backed up in step 2 into the new Counselog installation folder (the location should be the same as in step 2). Confirm any prompts to replace or merge files/folders.
  8. Start Counselog again using the desktop shortcut and log in using your previous Counselog user name.
  9. You will need to request a new user license for your new computer; however, you can continue using the trial version for 15 days.
